Guitar
My favorite hobby is listening to and learning about music! One of the best ways to learn about music is by picking up an instrument and learning how to play it. By doing this, you'll not only learn more about music but also hopefully develop a stronger connection to it. Here is some information about the guitar!
Fretboard
In most cases, a guitar will have 24 frets, with the last 12 being a duplicate of the first. The image below shows the notes of the first 12 frets, which will repeat for the last 12 frets. Once you know this, learning the fretboard becomes much less intimidating since it just repeats. Learning the fretboard isn't about memorizing where each note is, but rather about understanding scales of notes that go together. This allows for a smooth transition when playing between notes. However, that's not the most popular way of playing guitar. What most people hear on the radio are chords being played in sequence on repeat.
Chords
Chords are a group of at least 3 notes that when played, will play a certain pitch. The pitch being one of the letters in the musical alphabet. Music is really complicated but to keep it simple I inserted a picture below that outlines a chord progression. The guitarist would start with Am, Fmaj, and Gmaj in order and on repat. The variations come with how long each chord is played or how quickly it is played. The numbers on the sheet indicate the fret position, and their placement shows which string should be pressed. A "0" means the string should be played open (without pressing any frets).
Music I like
Here I will go over a list of bands that I enjoy listening to. The rock genre is what got me into music and become motivated to pick up an instrument. I enjoy the dynamic sound of the guitar and hopefully it can be showcased through these bands. The images will link to their specific website.
